Emotional Wellbeing

The Wellbeing Model focuses on the mental health and emotional wellbeing of the community as a whole, as well as providing one-to-one support because it is drawn from an environment that includes others with shared experience.

Mind Cymru and local mind associations have been looking at Wellbeing as a way of developing services.  Government, both locally and nationally have also started to embrace the concept.

A wellbeing approach can be differentiated from a recovery approach in that in the UK the latter approach is mainly aimed at those using secondary mental health services: only a small fraction (8%) of those experiencing mental and emotional distress.  A wellbeing approach, particularly linked to local Minds, has the potential to reach out to all those who experience mental/emotional distress and beyond.

Ystradgynlais Mind actively promotes and works with the Wellbeing Model and Mindís Wellbeing Values.  Because of this, we are able to offer greater diversity in the range of services and opportunities offered to service users and all members of the wider community.

The emphasis is on activities taking place away from an organisational base and links in seamlessly with other local organisations.  The focus is on moving toward independence and social inclusion and the involvement of service users taking initiatives forwards.

Ystradgynlais Mind embraces this concept as it enables us to include the whole of our community, of which we are all a part. We have established ourselves as a Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Centre within the community, promoting positive mental health for all.
